I recently had the opportunity to photograph Trombone Shorty and his band, Orleans Avenue, performing at Lafayette Square for the annual “Harvest the Music” concert series. This native New Orleanian entertains with a high-energy, jazzy funk rock sound, or as he calls it “SupaFunkRock.” But there is much more to this trombonist, he is a singer, songwriter, and trumpet player as well.
Andrews began playing professionally at a very early age. The nickname “Trombone Shorty” came about because he was so small when he began playing the trombone, the instrument was almost twice his size. You can see a photo of young Troy with the trombone and learn more on the Trombone Shorty Foundation website.
